Barrier Repair Serum - for healthy, glowing skin

This product is formulated to repair the skin barrier (outer layer of the skin). Providing more balanced, smooth, glowing, healthy, and hydrated skin. 

When the skin barrier is intact, skin looks smooth and glowing. Ceramides help maintain the integrity of the skin's barrier layer.

What is a skin barrier and why might one need repaired? 

The skin barrier is the outermost layer of your skin that serves as a protective shield from environmental stressors, bacteria, irritation, etc. 

If you’re not properly caring for your barrier your skin may be overly dry, irritated, sensitive, dull, itchy, feel tight after washing, more prone to breakouts, experiencing more redness, etc. 

Causes of a damaged barrier: 

Sun exposure, pollution, smoking, over-exfoliating (physical & chemical), using harsh or irritating skincare products, and really just genetics and age. 

Our Ceramide levels decrease significantly as we age so our skin loses it’s ability to hold onto moisture. 

How to improve your barrier:

-Stop using physical and chemical exfoliants (AHA, Glycolic, Lactic & Salicylic Acids for example). Once your barrier is back intact you can reintroduce these at about 1x per week, and gradually increase to 2x per week if needed. 

-Don’t use skincare products with fragrance or perfumes. Essential oils are fine, but be aware that some businesses will label “essential or fragrance oils” on their ingredients list to avoid having to specify that it is perfume, which is misleading. I would steer clear of these products. 

-USE YOUR SPF! Even when its cold and cloudy your skin is still being affected by the UV rays. Using SPF helps with preventing age spots, wrinkles, dryness, etc. so even if you think you don’t sunburn, you are still damaging your skin. 

-Use products with Ceramides & peptides. These mimic the skin’s moisturizing function and act as water magnets. Once your barrier is back intact we recommend keeping this type of serum in your regiment at least once per week. 

Try sticking to a very basic routine for 2-3 weeks without any added products such as: Vitamin C serums, exfoliants, face mask, retinol, etc. 

Our recommendation:

1. A basic gentle cleanser: From Calibrated Skin we suggest the Hydrating Cleanser. From the drugstore we suggest Cerave Normal to Dry Cream to Foam Cleanser (even if you think you have oily skin). 
2. A hydrating serum: Our Barrier Repair Serum, or Hyaluronic Acid Serum. Or something from the drugstore with ceramides. 
3. A Moisturizer: Our Dry Skin Relief Moisturizer, Firming Face Cream, or Hydrating Moisturizer would all be perfect. If you have extremely dry and/or flaky skin then the Goat Milk Face Cream would be great! 

Ingredients: Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Ceramide NP, Sodium Hyaluronate, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Glycerin, MSM, Xanthan Gum, Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Phenoxyethanol.

Directions: Apply over cleansed & toned skin while the skin is still a bit damp.
